SD card and USB drive repair by removing bad sectors

Our storage devices store data in different sectors. Due to
various reasons, these sectors become unusable, giving rise to
bad sectors. By using some steps and running simple commands,
you can perform a USB drive repair. Read more about it here in detail.

Recover your lost data

You can use Sandisk Rescue Pro to recover your data in case you
have deleted your files or formatted your SD card/Pen Drive by
mistake. The SD card needs to be in working condition to
perform the recovery process. Other notable data recovery
software is Recuva by Piriform. For more information on data
recovery, check out our list of the top data recovery software.

Tools provided by pen drive and SD card makers

You might not be aware but many storage device makers like
SanDisk, Kingston, Samsung, Sony, etc. provide their own
low-level utilities for formatting and other repair purposes.
Such tools can be used to fix and restore SD cards and flash
drives to their full capacity.

You can find these tools by visiting the websites of the device
makers or by contacting their support. In my own personal
experience, such alternative SD card and USB drive repair
methods have turned out to be more useful.

SD Association which publishes the SD specification also
provides a tool called SDFormatter which can be used
revive SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards. It’s available for both
Windows and macOS.

Other SD card related problems

The solutions for repairing SD cards and flash drives might be
similar, but they are a different kind of hardware. For SD
cards, there could be several issues preventing you from
accessing them on your computer.

Issues with external card readers

While most of the modern laptops and 2-in-1 devices feature an
SD card slot, the same is a no-show on desktops. That’s why
people take the help of cheap external card readers which run
into problems more often.

External card reader not working

Sometimes, it might be the case that your card reader is broken
and you’re blaming your innocent PC. Maybe, the memory card
reader isn’t getting enough power from the USB port, or no
power at all if its USB cable is damaged.

It could also be the case that you’re using an old card reader
while trying to access your card. It may not support higher
capacity SDXC, newer UHS-I, or UHS-II interfaces,
or may not work on the latest versions of operating systems.

Check if your SD adapter is working properly

When you’re trying to connect a microSD card using a MicroSD to
SD adapter, make sure the adapter is working fine. Also, there
is a tiny slider present on the SD card adapter, when turned
on, allows the data on the card to be read-only. Check if it’s
in the correct position.

Damaged SD card

If you are one of the people who use their memory cards
irresponsibly, there might be one day when it will get damaged
permanently. Improperly installing and removing the SD card
from the card reader can hurt its golden connectors and even
make it unusable. So, if your card is not getting recognized,
check the connectors.

A little advice

There are chances that the warranty of your corrupted USB drive
or SD card is still valid. So, if your storage device is giving
you problems again and again, it’s advisable to invest some
effort and go for a refund or replacement. I’m recommending
this as it’s not worth putting your faith in a USB drive that’s
showing signs of unreliability again and again.

Note: Please note that the SD card and USB
repair methods described above are general ways to fix a
device. Due to some device-specific issues, there could be
cases when these steps might not be useful.

hard drive as well, you can follow our hard drive repair guide.

YouTube’s ‘Dark Mode’ Is Arriving On iOS And Android: Here’s How To Enable It

After YouTube desktop, its mobile apps are the latest in line
to join the dark side. The YouTube iOS app is finally getting a
new dark theme. So, iPhone users running latest version of the
YouTube app can turn on the new feature with a few simple taps.

The dark mode for Android is expected to arrive soon for all
users (We’ll update this story once the YouTube Android app
gets the update).

We have already covered how to enable dark mode
on desktop
 when YouTube launched its desktop
version in 2017. To activate the dark mode on your phone,
just tap the account icon, navigate to settings and select
“dark theme”.

On enabling this mode, the app background turns from white to
black which is a bit easier on the eyes especially for users
who use the app for a more extended period. Also, it can be of
great help for the night owls binge watching cat videos.

The mode helps users to focus more on the content and not
the controls. According to some tests, it potentially helps
in saving battery
for users who spend more hours on YouTube.

In addition to the dark mode, YouTube is working on other handy
features for the users. Past rumors have suggested that an
incognito mode” for the
YouTube app is under development.

How to Show Featured Image in WordPress Single Post

Display featured image in WordPress post as full, large,
medium, thumbnail size

Every available WordPress theme doesn’t give you the option to
control if you want to show featured image in a post or in what
size you want to display them.

The image is crucial for your blog post as it’s probably first
thing audience notice.

For ex, I am using Hueman theme and that
doesn’t display
featured image in single post. Here is what I did and
thought to share so you can be benefited.

  • Go to your theme directory
  • For ex: wp-content/themes/hueman
  • Take a backup of single.php
  • Edit single.php and search for <?php the_content();
  • Add following above the <?php the_content(); ?>
if ( has_post_thumbnail() ) { // check if the post has a Post Thumbnail assigned to it.
the_post_thumbnail( 'full' );
  • Save the file and refresh your wordpress to see them in

Above code will show featured image in the single post as
original image size. This is how single.php will look like.

If you want to control the size, you can change
the_post_thumbnail parameter.

To display default thumbnail
size (default 150px x 150px max)

To display in medium size (default 300px
x 300px max)

the_post_thumbnail( 'medium' );

To display in large size (default 640px x
640px max)

the_post_thumbnail( 'large' );

To display in original uploadedsize

the_post_thumbnail( 'full' );

This has helped me and I hope you too. Don’t forget to compress
your images with these awesome free online

the free plan at no cost.

I was testing their SSL with WordPress & Joomla, and both

  • How to fix broken Joomla due to Cloud Flare SSL
  • How to ensure HTTP is getting redirected in https

So first thing first – let’s ensure you have
SSL activated in Cloud Flare

  • Log in to Cloud Flare
  • Select the website from list
  • Click on Crypto

  • Ensure you can see “ACTIVE CERTIFICATE,” and SSL level is
enabled like Flexible, Full or Strict based on what you need.
If you don’t want to spend money on having a cert on your web
server, you can leave default value, which is Flexible.

This ensures Cloud Flare SSL is activated on your website.

Fix CloudFlare SSL issue in WordPress

As you can see in below screenshot, my WordPress site layout
got broken. This usually happens when all content is not
getting loaded through https which results in broken site.
There are two ways to fix this –

First – ensure your all contents are getting

is easy.

Second – Install Cloud Flare Flexible

  • Login to WordPress admin

  • Search for “Cloud Flare Flexible SSL
  • Install and activate it

That’s all – this plugin takes care of everything. As you can
