Google Assistant Can Now Speak Hindi: Here’s How To Enable It

Google has rolled out updates
for Google Assistant that will enable it to speak in Hindi
language, the third most spoken language in the world.

This update is now available on all Android phones running on
version 6.0+ (Marshmallow and above) and will be soon available
on Android 5.0 Lollipop and iPhone devices as well.

The virtual assistant works in its usual manner for Hindi as it
does for other languages. You can talk to it in Hindi along
with a few occasional English words that are commonly spoken in
Hindi and it is smart enough to understand it.

Without further ado, let’s take a look on how to enable and use

Firstly, update your Google Search app to
the latest version in order to access the Hindi
Google Assistant.

Then launch the Google Assistant by touching and holding the
Home button or just say “OK Google” to start the app.

By default, the app is set to English language, so you will
have to change the language settings to Hindi. Go to Settings,
navigate to Phone > Assistant Language and select Hindi.

But unfortunately, this isn’t enough to activate the Hindi
speaking abilities of the app. You will also need to change the
system language of your phone from phone Settings and this is
something that Google needs to work on.

Once you select Hindi in the Language & Input section, the
system language will change and your Google Assistant is good
to go.

The Assistant is smart enough to understand your typed queries
and voice commands in Hindi. You can ask questions like
“Cricket ka score kya hain?” or assign tasks “Kal subah mujhe
saat baje jagaao.”

There is also a dedicated website which has a list of frequently used commands
that you can check out.

need any such accessory. Check out these different

Different methods to repair corrupted pen drive or SD card:

Change the drive letter

Sometimes your computer is unable to assign drive letters (like
C, D, E) to your storage media. Due to this reason, the files
on it can’t be accessed. To resolve this issue, you can assign
the drive letter to your device.

How to change drive letter in windows

Here are the simple steps to fix the corrupted pen drive or
memory card by assigning a correct drive letter:

Maybe the issue is specifically on your PC, and that’s why you
are finding trouble in running the USB flash drive. Try
connecting your SD card or pen drive to another computer.
Hopefully, it may work, and you’ll be able to backup your data
from it.

Try another USB port

Although, it sound’s strange, but you’re wasting your time if
you repeatedly try to connect your SD card or flash drive to a
single USB port on your computer. It could be possible that the
port itself is damaged or some software issue is to be blamed.
So, try other USB ports if your USB drive or SD card is not
getting recognized.

Reinstall the drivers

There are times when the drivers that run your pen drive get
corrupted and your PC will not be able to detect the storage

SD card and USB drive repair by removing bad sectors

Our storage devices store data in different sectors. Due to
various reasons, these sectors become unusable, giving rise to
bad sectors. By using some steps and running simple commands,
you can perform a USB drive repair. Read more about it here in detail.

Recover your lost data

You can use Sandisk Rescue Pro to recover your data in case you
have deleted your files or formatted your SD card/Pen Drive by
mistake. The SD card needs to be in working condition to
perform the recovery process. Other notable data recovery
software is Recuva by Piriform. For more information on data
recovery, check out our list of the top data recovery software.

Tools provided by pen drive and SD card makers

You might not be aware but many storage device makers like
SanDisk, Kingston, Samsung, Sony, etc. provide their own
low-level utilities for formatting and other repair purposes.
Such tools can be used to fix and restore SD cards and flash
drives to their full capacity.

You can find these tools by visiting the websites of the device
makers or by contacting their support. In my own personal
experience, such alternative SD card and USB drive repair
methods have turned out to be more useful.

SD Association which publishes the SD specification also
provides a tool called SDFormatter which can be used
revive SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards. It’s available for both
Windows and macOS.

Other SD card related problems

The solutions for repairing SD cards and flash drives might be
similar, but they are a different kind of hardware. For SD
cards, there could be several issues preventing you from
accessing them on your computer.

Issues with external card readers

While most of the modern laptops and 2-in-1 devices feature an
SD card slot, the same is a no-show on desktops. That’s why
people take the help of cheap external card readers which run
into problems more often.

External card reader not working

Sometimes, it might be the case that your card reader is broken
and you’re blaming your innocent PC. Maybe, the memory card
reader isn’t getting enough power from the USB port, or no
power at all if its USB cable is damaged.

It could also be the case that you’re using an old card reader
while trying to access your card. It may not support higher
capacity SDXC, newer UHS-I, or UHS-II interfaces,
or may not work on the latest versions of operating systems.

Check if your SD adapter is working properly

When you’re trying to connect a microSD card using a MicroSD to
SD adapter, make sure the adapter is working fine. Also, there
is a tiny slider present on the SD card adapter, when turned
on, allows the data on the card to be read-only. Check if it’s
in the correct position.

Damaged SD card

If you are one of the people who use their memory cards
irresponsibly, there might be one day when it will get damaged
permanently. Improperly installing and removing the SD card
from the card reader can hurt its golden connectors and even
make it unusable. So, if your card is not getting recognized,
check the connectors.

A little advice

There are chances that the warranty of your corrupted USB drive
or SD card is still valid. So, if your storage device is giving
you problems again and again, it’s advisable to invest some
effort and go for a refund or replacement. I’m recommending
this as it’s not worth putting your faith in a USB drive that’s
showing signs of unreliability again and again.

Note: Please note that the SD card and USB
repair methods described above are general ways to fix a
device. Due to some device-specific issues, there could be
cases when these steps might not be useful.

hard drive as well, you can follow our hard drive repair guide.

YouTube’s ‘Dark Mode’ Is Arriving On iOS And Android: Here’s How To Enable It

After YouTube desktop, its mobile apps are the latest in line
to join the dark side. The YouTube iOS app is finally getting a
new dark theme. So, iPhone users running latest version of the
YouTube app can turn on the new feature with a few simple taps.

The dark mode for Android is expected to arrive soon for all
users (We’ll update this story once the YouTube Android app
gets the update).

We have already covered how to enable dark mode
on desktop
 when YouTube launched its desktop
version in 2017. To activate the dark mode on your phone,
just tap the account icon, navigate to settings and select
“dark theme”.

On enabling this mode, the app background turns from white to
black which is a bit easier on the eyes especially for users
who use the app for a more extended period. Also, it can be of
great help for the night owls binge watching cat videos.

The mode helps users to focus more on the content and not
the controls. According to some tests, it potentially helps
in saving battery
for users who spend more hours on YouTube.

In addition to the dark mode, YouTube is working on other handy
features for the users. Past rumors have suggested that an
incognito mode” for the
YouTube app is under development.

How To Turn Off Facebook Face Recognition System On App And PC?

When it comes to privacy features, Facebook probably has gone
where no company has gone before. It includes unchartered
territories like asking people’s naked
to help victims of revenge porn. Now, Facebook has
introduced another privacy feature that can tell whether
someone has uploaded your photo to Facebook’s network.

Although it was first announced in December last year, recently
the company has reached out Facebook users through their News
Feed, notifying them that the face recognition system is being
used “for more features.”

Analyzing people’s faces and storing them has its benefits. For
instance, people can know if someone has uploaded their
picture, regardless of whether they’re tagged in it or not.
Also, Facebook could tell you whether a stranger is using
your photo as their profile picture and help visually impaired
users identify people in photographs.

Facebook doesn’t store people’s images directly; it creates a
blueprint or faceprint of the face. The faceprint is somewhat
unique because every human face has a unique design
with different noes, eyes, jawline, etc.

While the use of face recognition seems to be helpful and would
decrease unauthorized image uploads, still, it’s a tradeoff
between privacy and comfort. Facebook has been using face
recognition to tag people in images for years. Maybe, after
having anxiety for some time, many people wouldn’t have much
problem accepting the latest changes Also, it’s currently
opt-in and you can Turn off Facebook face recognition.

The massive amounts of biometric data that Facebook will feed
its machine learning systems has sparked concerns.
Perhaps, it’s not what it appears from the crust. Moreover, the
social network is also fighting legal battles focused on the
face recognition itself.

However, the news feed also includes a vital piece of
information. It tells how the face recognition can be turned
off. Facebook says that the feature is ‘Off’ by default,
but if you have enabled ‘tag suggestions’ feature, then it
will be set to ‘On.’ You can turn it off anyway.

How to turn off Facebook’s Face Recognition?

To turn off Facebook’s face recognition on your Android, go to
Settings > Account Settings > Face Recognition
. There tap “Do you want Facebook to be
able to recognize you in photos and videos?
” options.
Choose ‘No‘ to disable the feature.

On Desktop, visit, Settings > Face

face recognition. You disable it on one device, and the setting
is applied to your Facebook account.

What Is Power Throttling In Windows 10? How To Enable It And Improve Battery Life?

Among the various new features added
to Windows 10 1709 Fall Creators Update, battery saving
improvements are widely talked about.

Other than the new power mode slider in the battery flyout,
Windows 10 has also got under-the-hood power to prevent apps
from putting an extra burden on its shoulders and improve
overall battery life of your Windows 10 PC.

The feature is known as Power Throttling

Not every app on your computer requires the CPU at service all
the time. Other than the ones people actively use, most of them
run in the background where they consume CPU resources.

Windows 10 can reduce the load of such apps and give room to
the apps you’re currently using, a feature called Power
Throttling. This saves the precious battery life of your
system from being wasted on unimportant things.

Microsoft has deployed a sophisticated detection system to
automatically identify important stuff such as media player,
apps running in the foreground, and other demanding apps.

Power Throttling was first introduced to Windows Insiders in
April with the release of the Build 16176. Now, Power
Throttling is a part of the Fall Creators Update.

Battery Life On Windows 10

How to enable or disable Power Throttling in Windows 10?

Turning Power Throttling on or off on your Windows 10 PC is as
simple as moving the battery flyout’s Power Slider. Setting the
power mode slider to “Battery Saver” or “Better Battery” puts
the Power Throttling to work system-wide. You can move the
power slider to “Best Performance” and disable Power

Check out if it’s working

In the Task Manager, you can see what apps are being
optimized by Windows 10. Open the Task Manager, and go to
the Details tab.

Windows 10 task manager details tab

Right-click the headings, click Select
, and tick the checkbox that says

name. It’ll tell you whether Power Throttling is enabled or not
for an app or process.

enable power throttle task manager

To see it in action, try to minimize or maximize an app and
then take a look at the Power Throttling column.

When can you use Power Throttling?

There is a twist, not every Windows 10 user can take advantage
of Power Throttling. As the feature is developed to improve the
battery life of your Windows 10 PC, a physical battery needs to
present on the machine.

Power Throttling is disabled by default if you’re running
Windows 10 on a desktop or if your laptop is connected to a
power supply. So, nothing will happen when you move the Windows
10 power mode slider.

Manage Power Throttling for Individual apps

You can set whether Windows 10 should throttle a particular app
or not. This helps in case some apps aren’t that
important to you. The other way round, you can enable
Power Throttling for an app for which you disabled it earlier.

  1. Go to Settings > System > Battery.
  2. Under the heading called Overview, click Battery
    usage by app
setting enable power throttling windows 10
  3. Now, a list of apps will appear on the screen. Click the
one for which you want to enable or disable power throttling.
  4. Here, untick the checkbox that says “Let Windows
decide when this app can run in the background
    ” to
    display further setting.
  5. Untick the checkbox “Reduce the work the app can do
    when it’s in the background
    ” to turn off power
    throttling for that app.

You can tick the boxes anytime to enable power throttling for
that particular app.

Using power throttling on a regular basis can have its
advantages. Like, you might be able to improve Windows 10
battery and get extra minutes without slowing down your system.

How To Link Your Android or iOS Device To Windows 10? | Connect Phone To Windows 10

Use Microsoft Phone Companion to Continue on PC 7

One Windows 10 feature that’s quite handy is the option for
users to link Android and iOS devices to their Windows 10 PCs
and use the ‘Continue on PC’ feature. It lets you push web
pages from your phone to your PC without the need to connect to
the same network or use a USB cable.

The Continue on PC feature is currently available for
users running Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. You can use the
steps mentioned in this post to link phone to Windows 10 PC
with ease.

Connect Android or iOS Phone to Windows 10

You should have a working phone number if you want to link your
phone to your Windows 10 PC. In this post, I have used an
Android device, but the steps for iOS are similar if you want
to link iPhone to Windows 10. Follow the steps written below:

  1. On your Android or iOS device, download the Cortana app and
sign-in using the same credentials you use on your PC.
  2. On your Windows 10 PC, open Settings app.
  3. Click on the Phone option.
    Continue on PC 1
  4. Now, to connect your Android or iOS device to Windows 10,
you can start by clicking Add a phone. Make
sure both your PC and phone have an active internet
    Continue on PC 2
  5. On the new window that appears, choose your country code
and fill in your mobile number. Click Send to receive the text
    message on your phone.
    Continue on PC 3
  6. Download the Android app called Microsoft Apps using the
link in the SMS. It’s required when you want to link Android
phone to Windows 10 and use the Continue on PC feature. You
don’t need that app to link iPhone to Windows 10.
  7. Now, in the Cortana app, look for the option that says
Continue your tasks on PC. Tap Try it
Turn On Continue on PC 4

Once done, you’ll start seeing a new ‘Continue on PC’ button in
the Cortana app. For any news story you open in the Cortana
app, you can send it to your PC by tapping that button.

The linking is only a one-time process. If you try to send the
SMS again, you won’t receive it if you have had successful
verification, as it was my case. I couldn’t find any option to
‘unlink’ or remove the device and send the text again. To
download Microsoft Apps at a later stage, you can find the same
on Google Play.

You can unlink the PC if you don’t want your device to
push links to your PC. But this would stop all the connected
Android and iOS devices from doing so.

Continue on PC is not limited to Cortana

You can use the feature on other apps. For instance, visit any
web page in Google Chrome and open the Share section by tapping
the Settings button. Here, you’ll find the Continue on PC
option which works the same way as mentioned earlier.

You can also send images from your phone. However, it requires
an additional step. In Google Photos app, tap Share >
Continue on PC. Now, it asks you to create a link to the file
to be shared. So, you simply have to select the first option if
you want to send only one image.

Similarly, you can open links stored in Google Keep directly on
your Windows 10 PC. The Continue on PC option is available in
virtually all the places where you can find Android’s native
share option. But it’ll only work if there is a web link to be

What’s more?

You can club the likes of the Continue on PC feature with
existing syncing capabilities offered by Microsoft as a part of
their cross-device experience. Through the Cortana app, you can

Apart from linking your phone to Windows 10 over the internet,
there are other ways to transfer data between the devices.

all wireless, the photo-sharing app frees users from the
hassles of connecting USB cable.

However, there are a couple of downsides. For instance, you
have to scan the QR code every time you want to sync your
photos. So, for some users, the app might not be their cup of
tea. Another drawback is that the app works oneway, i.e., you
can only transfer photos from Android and iOS to Windows 10,
vice-versa isn’t possible.

It doesn’t matter what device people use, YouTube has become
the default streaming service for most of them. And it doesn’t
involve any cost, unless, one decides to go for YouTube Red

Despite all the features and great cat videos YouTube offers,
there is one thing that has been a pain in the ass for the
users: the ability to play videos in the background. It can be
helpful when people just want to listen to music only and do
other things. While many music streaming apps are up for
download on Google Play and App Store, YouTube is still
preferred by many for their music needs.

One of the best ways to get YouTube running in the background
is to get YouTube Red which adds the required capability
(through the YouTube Music app) and also removes annoying
advertisements. But the subscription is not available in all

Last year, Google introduced the PiP mode for YouTube and
other apps. For devices with a bigger screen it can be a little
helpful, if not the whole solution. But then the feature is
limited to Android Oreo which runs on another limited number of

Another way out of the dilemma is to use third-party apps that
can enable picture-in-picture mode of their own. Free music for YouTube:
is one such app for Android. But users have always
craved for a solution that works without installing any app. It
seems, doing the same is possible up to some extent.

How to run YouTube in the background on Android and iOS? (No
App Required)

You can take advantage of a workaround to play YouTube videos
in the background if you use Google Chrome. It might not be as
convenient as Red, but the trick does the job by taking
advantage of Chrome’s desktop mode feature.

For Chrome, follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. Open in Google Chrome on your Android or iOS
  2. Tap the three-dot button in the top right corner to open
    the overflow menu.
  3. Tap Desktop site and YouTube will reload to open its PC

  4. Now, play any video you like and press the Menu or Home
button to put the app in the background.
  5. As expected, the video will stop playing. You can pull down
the Notifications shade and tap the play button in Chrome’s
notification to resume the audio. For iOS, you pull up the
Control Center to access playback controls.

Now, you can do whatever you want; the YouTube video will
keep playing in the background. But keep in mind, if you go
back to Google Chrome and minimize the app, the video will be
paused, and you will have to resume it again from the
Notifications shade. Also, audio doesn’t keep playing if you
minimize Chrome when running YouTube’s mobile version.

What’s the best part?

The trick works even if your Android phone’s screen is off.
That means you can use YouTube as a regular music player as

The trick is not Chrome exclusive

You can also use any other browser to run YouTube in the
background, provided it has the desktop mode option available.
However, playback controls in the Notifications shade and on
the lock screen may differ.
